Now we want to think about you for a bit. What makes you a great tutor? Why should people let them tutor their children. As we’ve talked about before some schools offer tutoring for free, why should they pay you?
Take some time and think about this. You’ll be selling you. Here are some ideas for you.
Education – where did you go to school, what did you study? What extracurricular activities were you involved with that relate to the subject(s) you’re tutoring.
Example: We’ll use two during the exercise. We’ll be tutoring 1) High School Math and 2) French. These examples should help you get some ideas. If you have any questions or get stuck just reply to this email and we’ll be happy to help you.
1. Majored in Math at the University of here. Did work study with the Math department researching best ways to learn multiplication tables.
2, Currently studying French at University of… Volunteered to teach high school students. President of the French club.
Success – when you tutor you want to keep excellent records. You want some solid numbers. You’ll then be able to tell customers ‘We help most of our students improve a letter grade in Math’, or ‘The GPA’s improved by 0.5 points’. If you’re just starting out then you can highlight some of your successes.
Work / Life  – think of things you’ve done in your life and/or at work.
1. Taught Math at local high school for 15 years.
2. Lived in France for two years. Attended a French Jr High School.
Cost – If there are many different tutoring options you’ll want to highlight yours.
Convenience – you tutor at their home. You tutor them within their schedule. Â You give them extra tutoring if they have a final to study for etc.

We teach you about creating a resume and a script for speaking to potential clients in our tutor business guide. The list you made should give you a good start.
